Glycols are used in various places
in the chemical Manufacturing industry. In several
cases these glycols come out from the process
in the form of dilute aqueous solution. Because
of very high water solubility & very low vapor
pressure, recovery of these glycols from the aqueous
solutions is very difficult.
Conventionally water from the solution is evaporated.
The concentrated glycol stream thus obtained is
distilled under reduced pressures to get glycol
is the desired purity. Because of inclusion of
water evaporation step, the separation of glycol
from dilute aqueous solutions becomes very energy
intensive process.
Non-evaporative technology uses novel extraction
approach to separate glycols from the solutions.
The raffinate phase obtained after extraction
is free from glycerol content. The extract phase,
on application of mild conditions gives concentrated
glycerol.
Application:
The aqueous streams containing dissolved glycols
in it.
Benefits:
- Complete recovery of glycerol from the aqueous
stream.
- Ease of separation of glycerol from the extract
phase.
- Amenable to presence organic & inorganic
impurities.
- Highly Energy efficient process
- Ease of operation
